What are the laws regarding riding an ATV on the road in Pa. to get to a trail.

I was told that you are allowed to ride a registered snowmobile up 1/4 mile on the road to get to a trail head or around an obstacle like a river or RR tracks. Is that the same for an ATV?

Any info would be appreciated.

I'll be honest with you, I know very little about the laws. But, the way I understand it is, you can legally CROSS a two lane road at up to a forty five degree angle. That is the only legal time you can be on a road. However, I live in the sticks kind of and ride on the berm every now and then. My personal opinion is, if you are traveling at a slow speed along the berm, attempting to get from one trail to the next, no harm is done. Bicycles and horses can use the side of the road why can't we? What I do have a problem with is somebody going down the center of the lane at the speed limit or more. I know getting fined depends a lot on the circumstances and where you are but in reality, get caught anywhere and you could be fined.

Go to Pa Atving.com.....(link below) and look in the politics page. All the Pa rules and regs are listed.
