He was hunting on the bow hunt and hit a tree head on. He was a hip guy into the boxing community and other great things. Of course now it's all over Utah, Are ATV's safe?

Hell no there not safe if you don't wear a helmet. I'm assuming he wasn't wearing one, if he had he would have been fine prolly.

Sandgod,

Sorry to hear about anyone getting hurt much less killing themselves(please note latter) on an atv. My unsolicited opoinion is that 99% of these accidents happen through driver error, inexperience or poorly maintained machines. I'd defy anyone to tell me that faulty production parts or acts of god account for more than one percent of these accidents. Hop on any motorized piece of equipment and yeah, you're not 'safe' until some kind of intelligent input is transferred to the machine.

That being said, my heartfelt sympathy and prayers go out to this public servant's family and friends. Let's all learn from their unfortunate loss.

John

A lot of people are just casual riders. The bikes sit in the garage all year, then they pull them out for hunting season or something and think they can ride proficiently after not being on a bike for a year. Plus, because quads have 4 wheels, people have a false sense of security. Someone getting on a 2 wheeled dirt bike, assumes it's dangerous (because they have to balance the thing), and they are naturally more cautious. Anyway, you better run for his senate seat-we need all the pro atv politicians we can get!

Sorry to hear of this loss, I don't know how many things are safe anyway, people die all kinds of ways, I'd rather die doing something I love than driving to work, I've got to agree with yzguy that many people get a false sense of security due to the 4 wheels
