After the First Ten Hours of Riding?
#1
Can someone tell me is it customary for the dealer where you purchased your new ATV to charge a fee for the required tune up- or whatever its called- after the first ten hours of riding? My dealer sent me a 10% discount coupon for the job to be done. I did not think I should have to pay anything! Is this the way things are done with atvs? What are your experiences?

The dealer where I bought mine gave me a 10% off coupon too. They said they were gonna adjust the valves, clean the air filter, change the oil ect. They only had the bike for 15 minutes.Im sure that they didn't adjust the valves since it takes 30 minutes just to get the plastic off. They did do the airfilter, they stripped the screws. They did change the oil too.

When I bought my banshee, I got a free tune up at the shop. If the dealer doesnt offer you a free tune, tell him that another dealer offered to do it for free if you buy there. MOST dealerships realize that if they can get you into their shop, and they do a good job, you are more likely to go back. If there is no other dealerships in the area, Simply tell them that "a friend" said that they will give your machine a tune up for free if you buy a case of oil [or whatever- something cheap - parts for the tune up] from their [sled?] shop. I frequently buy stuff through a local sled shop [i have to drive 20min one way to get to a yamaha shop, sled shop is just down the road from my house] Salespersons usually have 2 goals, 1) Sell you something. 2) get you back into the store! You *DO* have some bargaining power with them. Talk to them, tell them what you want and how much you want to spend. If they cant get within your limits [which they never seem to be able to do] then start talking services. Remember that the shop has to buy any parts/gear that they give you, But the mechanic gets paid hourly, THEY HAVE TO PAY HIM ANYWAYS! Well, sorry for rambling on, hopefully some of this makes enough sense to help you out...

I took my K 650 IN FOR ITS 10 hour break-in period tuneup. I asked how much would it cost to do what needed to be done.Service manager said about 180.00 bucks. I had called previously and he said it would cost about 140.00. The quad was supposed to be ready the next day... they called me at work to tell me that they found a leak in my motor. Said it would take 5 days to get the part. I know its under warranty........is something going on here? I just don't know!
