looking at buying a truck...
#1
I currently own a 2000 Mazda Protege, but I need something that can haul my bike around. I really want a pickup truck like a 97 nissan. I'm looking at spending under 8k if possible, anybody got any ideas or suggestions on what truck to get that still looks 'sporty' and has power. v-6 and 5-spd a must. ;]

forget the baby trucks get a full size GM or Ford not htat much worse of fuel milage and will do a better job hauling or towing.

Dodge Dakota Club Cab. I've owned 4 of these trucks since '90. No problems from any of them, not counting the one I drove into the Atlantic Ocean which is a long story and no fault of the truck.

i would buy a full size truck. if you want to spend $8,000.00 or less, then you can probibally get around a 92 to 95 depending on the milage. i would also try to find one with an 8 ft bed. the 6 ft beds are nice, but the extra room from a 8 footer is great! dodge trucks allready have tie down spots for hauling, and i use mine all the time. built right into the bed with the tiedowns. also, i might consiter trying to find a 4 wheel drive model. i bet you can find one for $8,000.00 being a 93 or 4, with about 80 thousand miles on it. being from colorado, 4 wheel drive can get you into the mountains with a foot of snow for the all important snow driving, lol.

full size or small truck, get what u can afford and like. just find a good auto repair shop and have them preform a used car inspection. we do it all the time for our customers, some of them even take your advise and not buy the piece of junk. most inspections will cost around $100.00 but it is well worth it my friend. if the car lot or person does not want you to take it to a shop to be checked out then let your feet do the walking. we cant see into the future but we can tell if it has been abused and let you know of any potential problems.

I agree with the others go with the full size, Only I would recommend a 2X4 if you are looking in the $8,000 dollar range. I don't know what it is like in your part of the country, but here in MN a 4X4 full size truck in the $8,000 dollar range is either really old or really worn out. Have fun shoping!!!!

hey rancher dave, i think i may be able to speak for us all...........why did u drive your truck into the ocean? as far as mrl what truck to buy, i personally believe in getting what u wany and need. go at least 1 size bigger than what u need, me ill never own a 1/2 ton again, too small. you can find a good used 1/2 ton for 8 grand and in 2wd, add 4000 for a 4x4 new, and atleast 1000 used another option is to get a trailer that will carry at least 2 bikes. have fun with all the test driving!! ( ( i do)
