Wireless Remote Winch
#1
I'm considering buying a winch, I'm looking at the Ramsey wireless 2500. Doesn't it seem like it would difficult to operate the keychain looking remote if you needed to be on the atv while you are using the winch as oppose to have a switch mounted to the handle bars? If anyone uses a winch often please let me know what you think. Thanks.

you can't go wrong with the ramsey. I presently have a warn, but I have seen the ramsey it is sweet. It also out performs the warn winches. check out the ramsey website (www.ramsey.com) the ramsey winch also has a three position self centering toggle switch that controls the winch also. I don't think you would be sorry.

Hi Michael2
I have a warn 2000 winch and wanted something better than the big switch that came with it.
First I bought a solenoid (relay) to control the high current and mounted it behind the air box in my Sportsman 500ho. This allowed me to control the winch with a tiny, center off toggle switch mounted to the headlight housing.
Next I bought a remote control kit from Velleman. This is a small keychain transmitter like a car alarm remote. It has 2 buttons. The receiver, which I mounted under the front cowling has two small relays, and is wired the same as the small toggle switch. Now with the remote buttons, I can control the winch up to 100 feet away.
It's nice to be able to stand anywhere while using the winch.

foneguy, you can buy a variety of rocker & toggle switches that will work. The one that came with my Ramsey looks pretty generic. I would try Radio Shack.
