GPS POWER LOSS...
#2
I have a Garmin III Plus and the first time I used it I thought I lost power too. Not sure if your situation is the same but when you turn your ATV off the Garmin GPS displays a message warning that your power source has been lost, that if you want it to remain connected you must depress any button. I've made a habit to do just that when I stop during a ride.

I like the idea of wiring it directly to the battery. This lengthens the life of the AA batteries also because the GPS will not change over to them after losing power from the Prairie battery. Even though I try to press any of the buttons every time after turning my Prairie off, I still forget to sometimes just like 63butstilkicking said. Great idea...
