The Power OF Xenon
#1
I was wondering if my 400EX will be able to power Xenon bulbs like the new Mercades have (The blueish ones). I already have the adapters. I went to the junk yard and got them off a car but I want to know if it will hurt my machine, or if it will even power them. Thanks a ton!

Team400EX,
There should be no problem at all. It all comes down to the power the lights draw and the power available.
A typical stock ATV light is in the order of 60W. I have no idea what the Xenon bulbs draw but I can't imagine it is much more than 60W.
A typical ATV provides 150-250W to cover all loads. The starter and headlights are the biggest loads (and generally don't operate together). Battery charging is probably the next biggest load.
Look at the stock light and the Xenon bulb for wattage ratings. It should be stamped or silk screened on somewhere. If the wattage is similar you will be just fine.
The type of light, Xenon, vs incandescent vs halogen, doesn't matter, the wattage matters.
Hope this helps,
DJ

Yeah, the 400ex comes with 2) 30w bulbs. If the xenon are 30 each you could use 2, if they are 60w, then you would use 1. An option would be to have your stator rewound by someone like Ricky Stator. Then you could run 2) 60s easily.

If you got the true xenon lights from a bmw or other car you need the igniter box to get the lights started. If you go to Ricky Stator's website you can read about it. I know that you can't just plug in the lights and expect them to work.
