I have recently seen my state impose mandatory insurance but have yet to get any coverage, I have been riding for 2 decades now and think I spend enough allready to have my fun time. I dont really care for any more bills or legislation toward something I could do without guilt as little as a year ago.

Im not sure of the point in insurance other than theft? which my homeowners or auto insurance would have covered until recently (since it can now be insured on its own it is no longer covered if it is stolen from my garage or out of the back of my pickup) If I were to be injured my health insurance should take care of that, or would have....

Does anyone else feel the same fear I have for the future of riding? seems like the 80's all over again with the legislation <spit> and fees to help protect us from ourselves? One of the public trails I do travel 5 hours across state to ride at has also imposed a $35 use fee for upkeep, Im curious, since the trail is maintained by volunteers and local clubs, are they going to get paid now? If they are going to see a dime of the money or fee, I am all for it, they do an excellent job constructing bridges (to keep atv's out of the water and stop the so called "pollution&quot and grooming the trail. But I highly doubt it!

I have been thinking alot lately about switching back to bikes, alot less hassle and for some reason people dislike them alot less

<end rant>

What states have mandatory insurance other than Pennsylvania?
How much do you pay for registration fees, trailhead fees, insurance fees?

I am unlikely to get any coverage any time soon. watch and you will see the premiums go through the roof in short time, up near what crotch rocket riders pay, wait for the claims to start coming in..

Get Insurance.... . I pay 80.00 a year for a 2001 Rubi. Registration fees in MN are 25.00 or so every two or three years. Trailhead fees: What trailhead fees?

What does the $80 cover? In this state, I am sure thats not the minumum coverage required.

in my state registration was $35 for every 6 months from what im told, I'm not really legal in that respect either. When I get a new quad its registered until it runs out then thats it. until recently there were no benefits for me to keep it current in this state (no publically funded riding areas within 4 hours of me.)

I called them trailhead fees since I am not sure how they are thinking on collecting the fees other than at the "trailhead" on this particular trail as mentioned above

I'll makw a long story short. My son allowed one of his buddies (10 years old) to ride his LT160 suzuki. Later that afternoon, my son comes running home and said that his buddy had wrecked. I hopped on my machine and rode to the woods where they were at and the machine was on it's side and the kid sitting on the ground crying. The machine had suffered severe front end damage because they don't hold up very well when the go 40 miles an hour into a tree. The kid broke his wrist. The moral of this story is... I had no insurance and the quad cost 1000.00 out of my pocket to fix. I now have insurance on both of our quads and it's a hell of alot cheaper than 1000.00 dollars.

$1000 is not too much, how often does something like that happen? I bet every few years and your premium is more in the long run. The idea on insurance is to only use it when you need it (cant pay otherwise) I see no reason to make a $1000 claim on the quad, before long you'll be paying $1000 a year I BET, who can afford that??

Insurance is like playing craps. It's a gamble. I have insurance because you never know when you need it. I ride different now that I have insurance because I'm not afraid of ruining my quad because insurance will pay for it. It's a good investment and if it's a law than you better too!!

I allways here its a hassle to get things covered with any insurance (never claimed anything on auto or car), Im not paying unless its a sure thing and I know Im going to get taken care of, also I would ride differently too, knowing I can do no wrong. Once everyone is on the bandwagon the rates will go through the roof Im sure of it.

How much do you pay?
What coverage?

I've had my house broke into, had my Harley stolen & had a house burn down. I was under insured on all these. I now have replacement cost on everything. My quad has full coverage & replacement for $185 per year. The replacement is valued at $9000. I may never have another insurance loss but if I do I'll only be out the deductable. Quads are a high theft item & insurance may be a scam but It's also peace of mind.

Insurance is not required on my quad in Oklahoma. Registration is not required. I pay $7 a day to ride the Dunes at Little Sahara, OK.
