Ouch. I broke my left leg jumping my CR80 in the woods. I hit a tree. So I almost know how you feel. Hope that you feel better.

Sorry to hear of this accident. Here locally in Columbus Ohio, within the last two weeks, was the story of a young man, big boy bout 6'+ 250+, who was in an ATV accident. He was doubling someone, not wearing helmets and was in critical care.

The wonderment of this was that the local media didn't just begin a "ban these bikes" story, they profiled being safe, and riding within safe guidelines.

So while I am sorry to hear of this tragedy, I must reply:

1. Always Wear a helmet when riding in the
trails. (No I don't always wear a helmet when just riding from point a to point b, but when I hit the trails I do.)
2. Never ride double on the trails. (I'm not ignorant and have doubled friends to locations)
3. Dont ride too much bike for you ability.
4. Always use your head for more than a place to store a hat.

If we're not careful the government will say that we cannot watch out for ourselves and will begin to limit our ability to own and ride these wonderful ATV's. And if you think I'm wrong look at what is taking place with Gun ownership rights and that is a Consitutional right.

yesterday a boy that was only in 10th grade at my school was riding with a lot of friends. he was riding a grizzly up a steep levey with a passenger, not a good idea. he flipped a i think the gas tank landed on his chest and it collapsed chest i think. he also broke his arm. right now he is in a good hospital and they have had to bring him back to life twice. but now they said that he is trying to alk and sit up. people around here think he is going live, thankfully. and if your wondering about the passenger, he jumped off and is not hurt. ill keep you informed

I went riding last sunday with some friends. There were four young women with us. Two of them had just purchased y2k 400EX's. One of them has never owned a quad in her life, the other had ridden her dads 200X a bit. The other two were on new Recons. All were wearing helmets. We went for a fairly long ride and I was impressed with their driving ability. Toward the end of the ride a few of us guys were hammering a highspeed jump on the edge of a field. The women didn't try the jump, but they were doing very well practicing wheelies in the field. The Recons are wheelie monsters, they must have a balance point 2 feet wide! Anyhoo, we had a blast and nobody got hurt. It is possible if the rider has some respect for the machine. Just because it goes fast, don't mean you have to. Also, nobody was trying to talk them into trying something stupid or out of hand, I think that is the key. Not everybody has to "push the limit". Also the ladies were at least 18, because that is how old you have to be to buy one in Minnesota.
Course if ya wanna ride like a maniac, and get killed, maybe I can get your wrecked quad for a heckuva deal... :-)

just my 2 sensless

I am only 16 years old, but I have been riding for a while. I have had only one minor accident so far, I was going a little too fast on a sharp turn and hit a deep rut and I got thrown off, I banged my head pretty hard, but I was wearing a helmet so all I had was a bad headache. I wear a helmet now whenever I ride. And to answer elanphea's question the Tour De Forest is a twice a year ride through 20 or so mile trails in the Allegheny Forest. The next ride is on May 20 & 21st. Here is the web site if you need more info...http://www.allegheny-online.com/ATV-FIRE2.html.

i'm 15 and I all of the roads were ice one day. I took my trx 200 out on the roads and was doing fishtales in the road at about 30 mph. I was just being stupid and showing off to my friend. All of a sudden I got going backwards and went into a ditch. My friend said the atv and i flippled about 3 times. It landed right on me. I got up right away. I wasn't even wearing my helmet. The only thing that hurt on me was my leg and it started hurting about an hour later. It was bruised a little bit. I think i am lucky to be alive today.
p.s. I am more carefull nowadays

philzie
that was just my point. They were wearing helmets, riding within their abilities, or at least capabilites; knowing when to say no.

That, in my opinion is safe riding.

I flipped a 400EX on jan 2nd this year and my shoulder still hurts. My left front tire went in a hole and didn't come out until the back end bucked me off and rolled over me. I've been ridin it a little but I've slowed it down a little. I had my helmet on , not sure what would hve happened without it.
