The problem with the Hemi and it's performance isn't the motor. The new Dodge Ram pickups our extremely heavy. There half ton is around 5,500 lbs. Thats more than chevys half ton heavy duty. So that truck isn't exactly made to lay rubber or do the quarter mile in a real fast time. You put that hemi into the new dakota which I heard there going to do. That will lay rubber and smoke the quarter.

I just got my first truck today. It is a 94 dodge 3/4 ton 4wd diesel with a 4spd auto(kind of wish it was manual) and it has a torque plate(which equals more power). When you stomp on it it blows a big cloud of black smoke and burns the tires a second, then after it hooks up your gone. I dont think i could have asked for much more since thats what i wanted. It has brand new tires and has 160,000 miles and is gray colored and doesent blue smoke any.I just thought i would tell you all because i am very excited even though i still have 5 months before i get my permit. I should have pictures up very soon!

If Dodge is going to build a truck to out run the Lightning, they will most certainly have to warm up a 450+ cubic inch V-10 Viper engine to hopefully keep up with Fords little 330 ci 2-v per cyl V-8. They don't have anything else on the shelf that going to do it.

I only read through the first two pages and thought I would just go ahead and post.

The topic was lightning versus hemi. I had a 2001 lightning when I decided to get back into the sport atv arena. I loved my lightning and it can tow.

I towed my 1000 pound flatbed with 3 atv's on it all over the west. The thing I loved was racing someone off the line and passing them with my trailer and atv's in tow. It was a blast. That thing moved and I could tow as fast as I wanted to. Without trailer I had the speedo pegged and the tach was still climbing, I was doing about 150mph. In a truck that is impressive and the most impressive was how fast it got there.

I am sure the hemi is a nice truck, however it is not in the same league as the lightning. I saw one of the new ss chevies yesterday and it is nice, but the power is down a bit from the lightning and it is a bigger heavier truck.

As for diesels, all the big three make nice diesels that can tow. I ended up trading the lightning off, because I needed something to tow my 28 ft toy hauler. Oh, and I actually saw a lighting once with a fifth wheel, it was a shorter fifth, probably 20ft.

Maybe, but at the least the Dodge SRT-10 is all engine. Just imagine if they supercharged the V10. Think what it would do to the lightning then.

The Dodge Ram SRT-10 already toasts the lighting! That lighting is slow compared to it. Plus the Dodge looks a hell of a lot better my opion.

For crying out loud....DODGE HASNT SOLD THE FIRST SRT-10 YET,THEY DONT MAKE THEM,YOU CANT BUY THEM,THE DEALERS DONT HAVE THEM, AND UNTIL THEY DO ITS STILL A CONCEPT VEHICLE IMO!!!

So then how can an SRT 10 "toast" a Lightning?

The SRT10 is real. It is scheduled for production. And the units they have produced for the media (production spec), have in deed toasted the Lightning. We never claimed it was production yet. Just that it is superior to the lightning.

I certainly hope that if they produce a 450ci V-10 it has more power than than a 330 ci V-8.

But it is still a dodge, and that makes it #3. IMO

Have any of you got the new trucktrend magazine? It has a grudge match between the Ford harley davidson supercharced, chevy silverado ss, and the 1500 ram hemi. Dodge Takes second while ford takes first. With chevy third. That doesn't show that the lighting can't beat the ram hemi 5.7 liter but sense the lighting has more power it most likely does. I would hope it does though. Because in the competiton Dodge's truck is 27,000 where Ford and chevy's were very close to 40,000.
Ford heard about the new Dodge srt-10. So they had to come up with a new lightining that could compete. There new one is much faster. It's 500 hp and 500 ft lbs of torque. Dodge will still out do them though. When the SRT-10 comes out with a 8.1 liter hemi and 600 hp Ford is done. Dodge will always stay on top of that Ford.
