I have three quads, two of which don't use a battery.

I am looking for ideas how to make a small alarm for them including a small, durbale battery power supply.

Have any of you made a motion type alarm for your quad that goes off when someone gets on it?

I have a double trailor for my 2 quads. I have 2 cables locking the bikes together in the trailor, 2 locks on the trailor's rear hatch, a 50$ chain and a 60$ lock holding the wheels together with the axles and about 150 feet of rope holding a blue tarp over it all. Plus I even remove the front hitch so the trailor can not be towed away! It isnt bullet proof but the thief who wants my Quads is going to have to take 3 hrs cutting and removing locks, ropes, cables and gos knows what!!!!!

I have tried a small motion detector alarm that I bought at Radio Shack for about 35$. It is good inside the trailor...but if the thief grabs it he can muffle out the sound or smash it!

As you can see I got robbed a lot...not any more!

Put a spring mounted stake under the seat. You won't need a siren! Just don't forget to disengage it before riding!!!

I use a small motion detector in my garage and an
intercom so I can hear any noises. They make nice
small alarms for motorcycles, get one with it's own power supply. They have alarms that will page you when someone tries to mess with it. Take the seat right off the quad, not so comfy looking to a lazy crook! Mine are locked up but I'm going to do that right now. I had a 350X stolen in '98 and the cops just didn't care, I gave them leads but none were followed up on.

Until their untimely deaths, my 4whlr and stuff were guarded by a Boxer and a Rottweiler (Elvis and Bo). I recommend such highly.

You know what I did...which works pretty good......But not very portable.

I bought a creative webcam...which has motion and voice detection.... The way it works out for me....My computer room in the house is near enough to the garage to aim the USB cam out the window and just wait.... The software allows a chime to go off in the house as it detects motion....It then starts recording for a pre determined amount of time.

I can watch the action on the screen or go outside to check it out.

This is not the best method...There are probably better ways...though this works......and the best part...is that I can set it up to E-mail me at work...with a picture when I'm not home.

Just a crude way of messing around I guess.....Not too practicle if you need a portable alarm

I saw a guy at a flea market a couple of weeks ago that had something for his guns that may work. He just had a piece of wire that ran through all of the trigger guards. If the wire got broken, an alarm sounded. I hope this doesn't get too complicated.
Take a small, like lantern battery (6v type) or something similer. Get an alarm buzzer from radio shack and wire it to the normally open contacts of a dpst 6v relay. Use a long piece of wire to loopp through all of the quads, then power the relay. When the wire is broken, or disconnected, the relay will close and the alarm will sound. You could make this AC powered, but it wouldn't be portable. You could make it 12v and use your quad's battery, but their will be a constant drain, since you are normally holding the relay open.
It's really not as complex as it sounds, and for about $10, you'll have a little piece of mind. Good Luck.

I Bought a car alarm for my enclosed trailer, which i have pin switches at the ramp door and curb door,i also used 2 breakaway switches for outside to hook the cables directly to the quads when we are sleeping,a theif would not see these cables at night, and would be in for a big surspise when they would pull om my quads, the alarm has its own 12volt battery, which gets recharged when my truck/trailer are connected and running,I have appox.$125 in this.
