Thinking of buying new dakota and this is the engine that seems to be in most all of them any regrets I don't need a full size truck but like the V-8 for towing the quads and the boat. I work with trucks all day and never have driven one very far so I dont know much about them any info would be great Thanks RY

 

I wouldn't worry about trans issues, the company is doing much better listening to driver complaints. the test drivers have been fighting to get better turn over time so they can resolve problems sooner.I think with Diamler at the helm our quality is going to soar![img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]

 

I have about 85,000 on a 2000 Dakata 4x4 with the 4.7 and it has been the best vehicle I have had. If you are looking at getting one make sure you get the variable speed automatic transmission. It increases the towing capacity and has been trouble free. I still get just under 20 mpg with mine.

I have the 02 1500 Quad Ram with the 4.7 with auto and 3.55 rear axle. I pulled a 4500 pound travel trailer this past summer. Did fine got about 10 miles to the gal and with out trailer on hwy 18 so far. This is a 2wd not a 4wd pickup. Only have 19,000 miles so far.
Haven't had the quad in back of the p/u and trailer behind yet. But I wouldn't want to be going on no mountain with this kinda setup. The only incline of a hill at hwy speeds is crossing the Mississippi River at La Crosse and I held at 50 up the hill. Of course the speed limit was posted at 70 in Minn.

my cousin has a 2000 Dakota R/T, and it is awesome! he's added dual flowmasters and a cool air intake. lots of power!

he hasnt hauled his fourwheeler with it yet, so i cant answer that question.

 

raptorking I hope you own stock in a gas station, I don't expect your fuel mileage to be very good.

 

I have a 2000 black dodge dakota w a 3.9 v6 and it runs like a raped ape.even w a quad in the back going thu the 5spd I have been able to maintain speeds of 85-90 mph at will LOL.Im dead serious as a heart attack w the quad in the back an leavng the line off a stop light I have left bigger suvs in the water for dead.I look back an they are still 300 ft at the light haha an this is from only a 2wd 5spd v6.It gets 15-21 mpg is reliable has 46 k an still runs like a scalded ape.Id love to drop in a 360 in ths fairly ligt truck an really be a terror on the roads.1 last comment when Im on the hiway n the fast lane cars for some reason get out of my way when they see me coming down.I wonder why cause I dont drive agressively maybe they think Im 1 of them state trooppers are something[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif[/img]
