Hello,
I own a 98 300ex and went out to Pismo Beach
on the dunes this weekend and my wife was riding around and noticed a grinding noise coming from the rear end of the ex. She stopped the bike I took a look and between the bearing carrier and the sprocket there was some metal missing and a crack between the sprocket and the swingarm. Actually the left side of the swingarm where the axle goes in. Then the chain fell off.
We towed it back and that was it for the ex this weekend. What's wrong with my quad? Is it the bearings?
Help?

By now, it's probably the bearings AND the bearing carrier...

At this point I think it's the bearings only.
Will know more tommorrow. Luckily I have a 4 year parts and labor warranty. We'll see if it comes into play.

I went and talked to my Dealer and he is
honoring the 4 year warranty and is fixing my 300ex for free. Bearing and bearing carrier.
Funny thing is is I check the bearings periodically by checking the wheel when the quad is elevated if moves or wiggles I am told that at this point you would have a bearing problem.
Long story short I just brought my ex in for its yearly service and the mechanic overlooked the bearings because that is all part of the inspection.
No wondering they are honoring the warranty. All is well. I'll pick it up this weekend.

I think you had 2 problems. 1.) the rear end problem was you looking at your wife's heiney while quadding. 2.) While looking there you remembered how awesome your 300ex was and you regretfully wished that you had purchased a 400ex instead of a Banshee. We all live and learn...So how are you? Haven't seen your name around for a while. Isn't it ironic how I sold the 99Warrior for a 400ex and think it is the greatest thing and you gave the wife a Honda and bought a Yamaha for yourself and think it is the greatest? Add this to it... I just got the wife a 2000 Blaster to drag her along too. How opposite we are... Hope you and her are doing good.

Hello Mike,

Yes, I brought my Honda 300ex in for Warranty Claim. I am glad to say they honored it. It was their neglect at first. I was going to Pismo Beach for my first dune run for the year and had it in for its 100 hour service. The technician failed to check my bearings. That resulted in
a damaged bearing carrier along with the bearings.
I left it at the shop for 2 weeks and now its fixd free of charge. They honored the 4 year warranty. If the mechanic would of checked the bearings in the first place none of this would have happenned. Yes, I do check the bearings regularly also. Hey Mike, not only did I buy a 2000 Banshee but I also picked up a 95 Green stickered Blaster, fmf, boyseen reeds. So now I am up to three quads and loving it. When I go see the inlaws near Pismo Beach I bring all three and we go and play.
Happy Trails!!!
