Default sprocket help

Sorry, my wife has a 300ex and her front sprocket is a 13, and I couldnt imagine that the 400ex came stock with a 15, but if it does, then it does. My quad does great on trails, but I mainly ride it in the dunes

Default sprocket help

Wanted to let everybody know that I picked up my new 14tooth sprocket from JT Racing. Installed it WOW! big difference. A lot less shifting, helps to keep the bike from bogging in corners. I am very satisfied with it. Thanks for all your help, advice, etc.

You can fine tune more with the rear.
Do not forget the above comment. Just changing gearing in increments of ~3 teeth at a time can/may leave you with something that doesn't work well for you. I've found that all around the 14/40 setup on my YFZ has worked the best for my type of riding. I'm not done testing though.

Default sprocket help

hey, would u reccomend the 14 tooth sprocket for dune riding? i couldn't tell from all the posts if it gives more power and torque, or more top end? something with power and torque would be nice for me. i already have a FMF silencer, and re-jetted with new air filter, and a stage 1 hotcam. i figure with a new sprocket i will be able to climb jus about ne thing w/o a run in 2nd gear. how far off am i from the truth?

My wifes 300ex has the stock 13/38 gearing and it climbs good. I would like to try a 14 toth sprocket because on the flats it could definately pull the gear, but I am not sureif it would climb as well.

Hey CroBiker Let me try to answer that for you. Putting a new sprocket on does not add power or torque. However it does put the power that you already have where you need it. I wanted more performance for trail riding. gowing up hills, and pulling out of corners without having to down shift all the time. Changing the sprocket was definately a cheap and easy way to get the performance that I was looking for.

ok, thanx. i know that on a BMX bike putting a smaller sprocket on front gives u less top speed, but it's easier to go up hills (which is what i meant about more power). is that the same with quads?

Exact same concept. I put mine on two weeks ago. Huge difference. I can climb hills now in 3rd gear where I would normally would have to down shift to 2nd. I also a lot more use out of 4th gear now. I think it is the way to go.
