Buy a 1989 cr250 head gasket. There olny 0.15 think and line up perfect. It will increase your comp. You can also buy a newer biger carb. for it too, like a kehien 38mm A/S carb or 36mm. You could also take the cylinder off and polish the intake/exsaust ports. You can buy reeds and reed cages. Get a boyseen rad valve if your looking for bottom end or v-forse reeds for top end. Or you could always have it ported.

Buy a honda OEM metal head gasket, it comes in three pieces, take it apart and you will have two 0.009" head gaskets just like the 1990 cr. Next but a 38 or I prefer the 39mm Keihin carb. Next porting and head work or cool head.

I would suggest doing a cool head or having the stock head machined. When using a thinner base gasket the transfer ports and exhaust ports get lowered as well decreasing performance but giving better bottom end. Top end power will be sacrificed. Maybe not a ton of difference but not the correct way of increasing compression.

Like everybody else said, do something to increase the compression. I would port it, and get a new head. Take your comp. up to atleast 220-230. Lighten the flywheel, new counterbalancer, ignition, weld the crank. Adding a new carb will make a difference. Ive used PWKs and Air Strykers, and I like the PWK's better because they dont have as many hoses!! Before you really start adding power, make sure your bottom end is strong enough for it.

Havinnoj, that much compression is too much where I live. We are at 275 feet above sea level. 170-180 fits us real good.

Glamis 250R, just keep in mind the .009" head gasket. Head gaskets don't change your port timing! It will raise your compression nicely without the cost of head work or a cool head. In my motor packages I prefer the compression between 195 and 210 psi. I also agree with havinnoj, when you get a good port job and +200psi, make sure the bottom end is in good condition.

yea Dave wanted to do 220-230 psi on my bike, but we decked the head for more. Right now it's doing about 250 psi!!
