Motocross Bike Conversion to Quad
#1
Is there anyone who has custom converted a 500 Motocross bike into a racing quad sucessfully ?
I know of two people who have done this conversion (1 X CR, 1 X KX) by building a custom front end, welded onto the existing bike chassis and a custom swingarm and axle carrier. Limited ground clearance and overly high seat height being the main problems, vibration is not a problem due to the original bike frame being incorporated into the quad chassis.
Is there anyone who has done this conversion or know of any information regarding this type of conversion especially the suspension setup i.e. would zero preload shocks be an advantage?

I would have to say that if you are going to do this much work you might as well just buy a quadzilla in good shape and use that motor. Its counter balanced and vibration is not that big of a deal. I have seen over 60 horsepower coming from that plant. provided you aren't a suzuki hater i think this is the way to go.

I've looked at one for sale one time. It was a YZ490 bored out to like 525 or something. The guy had problems with the vibration though. It did sit real tall, and felt weird. the rear axle was probably 4 ft (48 inches) wide. I would imagine it is pretty light weight because it didn't look too sturdy to me. It was for sale for $500 and probably would have only been good for drag racing. I like to drag race, but I like to jump and mess around, so I did not want that. But I agree, to do this to a bike, it would be too much trouble and money. I found that one for $500. If it were still the original bike, it would have been for sale for at least that, so it's like they dumped in a whole lot of money to turn it into a quad, then to sell it and lose it all.
