my son wants to bore his 110 mojave, i found a good machine shop that can do it for $50-is that a good price. and the problem is since it is a rare quad nobody makes anything for it. so what i need to know is how to match my bore with the new piston and rings. i have heard in cars you can use oversized rings to make up the difference but not sure in quads. so how can i find out with the stock cylinder bored 20 or 30 over what size piston to use?

 

You should probably go to Kawasaki for the piston, they should list 2 or 3 oversizes.

And wait until you do find a piston to get it bored, $40-50 is the norm.

 

I would deff look for the correct size piston before trying to work the oversize rings as its just better all around.

Your machinist is being fair and I have seen prices from 35-70 and it depends a lot on where you are and who the shop is etc.

Dont know much about the motor you have but I am sure there are small little things that will affect the performance just like any other engine. Things like thinner gaskets, decking the cylinder or higher comp pistons that will increase the comp or even the amount of overbore this particular cylinder can take before its thin enough to have overheating worries etc. so try to reasearch any info you can find as it will benefit you in the end.

found a microfinche of the quad, now heres what gets trickey. the part listed as the cylinder is--PISTON-ENGINE,STD..then they also have PISTON-ENGINE LL,O/S 1.00, and the last one is PISTON-ENGINE L,O/S 0.50. so what do they mean. they are all pistons, and i dont know what the l,o/s 0.50 and 1.0 mean, does anyone?

The fische is indicating that there is a .020 & a .040 (.5mm & 1.0mm) oversize piston made for that 110.
You need to call a Kawasaki dealer and confirm availability of both sizes... once you establish what oversizes your machine shop will have to work with, then take the cylinder in. The shop will have to determine for you what it will take to clean up the bore--then you can purchase the proper size piston and rings.

dont bore unless it is needed for a rebuild. there is no horsepower to be gained and just a lot of overheating to come. the max that bike can be bored to without stroking and massive overheating is probably 125cc's or so, maybe you will gain 2HP throughout the powerband. Spend the money into some extensive porting and head mods. but no matter what you do there wont be much power to come from that engine.
