can't keep 400 polaris cool
#1
hey guys and gal's ,
I can't get any help from the polaris guys. I was wondering if any of you motor heads can help me. after about 20 minutes of riding my 400 starts to loose power and overheats. This is what I have tried so far but I must be missing something.

I have checked for flow (that's ok) Have checked level of colant(ok) checked both lines in and out of engine/rad. (ok) and have bled out the system with that pee hole on top of head. (just let colant come out and closed ) I have also checked for air bubble in rad while the machine was cool to see if I had a cracked head.(looks ok)
any Ideas? Thanks

That's what it sounds like, but you need to give more info. Is the motor modded or stock and what has been done? Has the jetting been touched? Fill us in as one missing part of info could be the answer.Bubba

Have you cleaned the fins out of the radiator, check the fan motor, and made sure there isnt an intake leak.

Yes, those fins can get all mucked up and not allow any air flow through....take the front grill cover off and take a water hose (nothing high pressured) and just keep spraying (preferably back to front) until it run clear....I spend a good 5 minutes on my radiator after I've been riding through mud bogs...

Thanks for all replys. I have not done anything to the engine it's all stock.
the only thing different was I took the machine from 8600 feet to 11500.
The more I think about it the more I think it's the fan. does anybody know how to check the sensor to the fan?

When you change evavations you change the air mixture in the carb. You need to rejet your carb for the higher evavation.
