You might try selling the quad sport and using that money to purchase a 250R with a bad motor. Or, you might find a Tecate quad. I seen a Tecate at Sand Lake running a KX500.
You will probalby need a longer trailing arm and some frame mods to make it work, but it should be possible.
I would personally choose the 250R approach. I have seen many different engines in that model, 500cc two strokes, GSXR1300's, Yamaha 650 five valve engines, you name it.
With any custom project, be prepared to spend almost as much or more than a new qaud. It can be done cheaper, but, that isn't always the best way.
