My first time using this web-site. My friend and I put a big bore kit on my Z400(Z440) and new Hot cams. Now I started it up and it sound good when pressing the gas, the only thing is that their is a loud knocking noise coming from the engine, can anyone tell me what that noise could be? Also after running the quad for a few minutes, it wants to die and it won't seat idle. I turn the idle screw but it won't idle right. Can anyone help me please.

 

the only thing I can say to you is to tear it back down and see what the problem is. there is a reason its knocking its not because its new its because something is not right. You probally bent a valve and that was the knocking sound and that is now why it wont idle changing you jetting like you said in your last post or turning up your idle is not going to help. What you need to do If you dont know how to build this and your friend does not have a great knoledge you need to have a qualified mechanic look at it before you do some real damage to this if you dident already.

 

The knocking noise is definitely the HotCams. Ask anybody who has installed them and they will tell you they make more noise than the stock cams, and is normal. It sounds like a fast, ticking noise, correct?? About the not being able to idle, what is your jetting info, along with EVERY mod you have done to see if we can help pin point the area that needs to be fixed.

 

Well tell you what I have them in my motor and dont have this problem and nither do the other 2 zs that I ride with that do so I asked and dident find that to be the case but its all good if they are shimmed corectlly then they shouldent make alot of noise.

 

You are correct that some don't have that same ticking noise, but many do. It is not a problem, however, which is what I was trying to express to him. As long as he has the correct size shims (mainly for the exhaust cam as the intake usually doesn't recquire as much change) you should be fine.

hot cams, head work porting/ chamber work, 440 wiseco piston, 41mm fcr carb, ct pipe.

 

Sounds cool! You should look into buying a new ignition if you still want to spend more money on your Z. I didn't think the Dyna would make the difference that it did.

 

im going to get the vortex. I hear its a great one, A friend has one and he said its impressive. Of course im gonna keep it like it is its not any slower than the other quads in its class. Hell its even faster than some but im not going to start a flame post.

 

Let me know how you like the Vortex when you get it, I hear good things about it too. 10 different sttings would also be fun to play with [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-tongue.gif[/img]. Where do you like to ride in New Hampshire?? Are there anly dunes relatively close or is it mostly trail riding out there??

 

riding dunes in nh I wish none of those here. I race mx, ride trails and occasionally become a pit rat. Ill keep you posted on the vortex it will be installed in a few weeks.
