I have a 98 banshee, Ported barrels and pipes but still running stock carbs,I mainly race grass track in england ,Before I spend my dosh on carbs can any one give some advise..I have read about 35mm, but some guys have told me I will loose all bottom end if i go big.....I am running FMF fattys so as to try and keep the power mid range , but would appreciate some more power if poss.

For a fraction of the cost of new carbs you could get your stock carbs bored a few mm larger. Since you have it ported with pipes it probably would help. I am using a single Keihen 34pj carb on my Banshee. I ride at 5000 ft. altitude and I have great bottom end. You could probably make any size carb work. Jetting is the most important mod anyone can make.

I run the FMF fatty's also and have some port done also. I am running Mikuni 28mm flat slides. These things really woke my machine up. There is instant throttle response, no more waiting for it to rev. I imagine throttle response is necessary for your kind of racing coming out of the corners. The mikuni kit is complete and costs less than the Keihin set up. I would go with smaller carbs (28-30) to keep the velocity up. Big carbs don't do so well at keeping the speed of the mixture up. The fuel will then fall out of suspension causing it to clump instead of being atomized. What I am saying is, if you were drag racing or hill climbing I would go big, but for flat track go with the smaller carb. Don't bore your stocker, it's a waste of your time. For what it costs to bore it (you can ruin them if done improperly) you might as well get good carbs. Good luck.

p.s. what is it like racing on grass?

I agree 100% with the last guy.
Just remember---- Step one is to take those stockers OFF and toss as FAR away as you can. They are just a cheap smack off carb in my book.
I run 35mm PWKs and LOVE them. I ran 34mm on my other banshee that i sold a little while back, but they were more of a mid carb, but these 35mm really HONK.
But if you were woods riding, Id prob get the 28s or 30s. The bigger carbs have NO bottom,,, trust me
