oldsandman: I meant the original question of putting a big bike motor in a quad frame, not whether or not dirtrooster's first link was a real quad.

And dirtrooster: I don't mean that you can't throw a leg over one of those superbike/quad hybrids and get it to move, I mean they would be unridable for practical reasons. Without the ability to lean, that Blasterbike thing would be awfully narrow to carve a very good corner, especially with the balloon tires that the blasters come with. The Blaster suspension doesn't get rave reviews either. Going fast in a straight line is nice and all, but I like to turn and jump every once in a while.
Some drag Banshees are also unridable, but they're really good at what they're designed for.

I'm a big fan of mixing and matching parts to get something cool, but I also like my stuff to be useful.

 

so back to the original question, whats a good frame to put the r1 engine into? i would really like a 400ex but if it doesnt fit what do you reccommend?

 

OK, starting fresh with this post:

Measure up a 400ex and if it looks like it can work, go for it.
I think you'd be way better off with either a DS650 or Quadzilla frame; they are quite a bit larger and stronger.

What's practical with an R1 motor ,peaked at 150hp bye the way, sitting on a quad frame. When most of your quads don't exceed 70hp. I was stating the fact that it can be done. You decided to put detail of riding quality on it. Just my final rebutal [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img](truce). We could be doing this forever.

As for starting over on the reply to this topic. Ryda85 Be careful with a R1 motor. It comes stock with more HP than my mazda protege LOL.

my brother in law had an accident and he decided to get a new one and he said i can have the engine...so its going in an empty frame...just cant decide which to use..i dont want a quadzilla frame...never even seen a ds frame for sale..so i guess its a 400ex if it will fit or the banshee

 

easiest would be a shee or quadzilla frame. I have seen an r1 in a 400ex it was a gent from australia. It was incredably tight fitting and looked like a very tough job if you want it to still look like an ex. You have to ask yourself what do you want to do with it first. As for those in the links if you just want to ride it up and down the street then that thing would work I guess but why would you want it? I'd rather have the r1 motor back in an r1 with two wheels.
