Default Axle cleaning

Hello out there,
Anyone have a real good way of cleaning your axles - I mean something to take off the semi-rust or weathered grime. I picked up my 400ex used and it's extremely clean except the rear axle has that weathered look. I tried some steel wole(?), but it didn't really seem to do the trick. Any ideas?

You can do the old bicycle trick of wrapping a small denim sleeve around the axel, and ride your way to a polished axel.

its called emoral paper or something like that its for sanding pipes its like sand paper but much more durable just put bike in air in the rear put bike in first let it run hold this emoral paper around axle with both hands let paper do the work works awsome did my banshee then get some clear coat and clear it, it will never rust again where something over ur face cause the fumes will kill ya
