I have this bolt that I've been trying to get off...it helps keep the chain tight, it's stripped, so I thought of looking at the bolt from the inside to see if I can get it loose.(It's the top right bolt) Right now it's somehow very very tight and I can't get it off. I have tried to take the rear brake cover off to look at it from inside...I took all the bolts off to get the cover off but now it's stuck on there too.
How do I get the cover off so I can get at the bolt and work on it to get the bolt loose????

I think the brake cover is somehow sealed on there with something, I've tried to get it off with a hammer and screwdriver and it still wont budge.

Given that your quad is 13 years old, do you know if the cover has ever been removed? If it had been sealed by a previous owner after replacing the shoes, there might be evidence in the form of sealant along the edges. You might also try spraying around the edges with WD-40 and letting it soak for a while.

I bought a '92 model and did find some difficulty in removing the cover in order to replace the axle bearing. Come to think of it, check to make sure the axle nut does not have to be removed in order to remove the cover. I keep this quad in another state or otherwise I could tell you myself.

Good luck.

Yes ATV_Man I think the axle nuts have to be at least loosened. What if you get the cover of the drum off.You still aren't going to be able to get the screw out unless you beat it out.

I know for a fact that the drum cover has been taken off before by the mechanics at the Honda repair shop to fix the brake...maybe they sealed it with something so it cannot come off.

About the axle bearing- It was replaced in Feb.

I never got the nut off but now I don't need too, that nut is there to hold the axle in place...the nut at the bottom of that one is there to swing the axle to make the chain tight(86HONDA will know what I mean). All I did was hit the axle with a hammer to make it go forwards....before I did this I thought it was all the way at the front...so then when I hit the axle the chain got even looser then I took a link out and now that solved the problem. (now I know the axle can move without that top bolt loose, so it can stay there)

(my story may be a bit confusing...I know)
