i was told by my engine builder which i do believe him, that power jets on alcohol carbs are ONLY needed when racing up glamis hills(steep and really long) but on flat run they are not helpful. but around here everyone that drags on the flats have them...get them or not?

Alky carbs should always have power jets. The mains do not deliver a sufficient fuel chrarge at top rpm's. It makes a big differnece in the way my bike performs when I change the power jets. If they werent necesary then 99.9% of engine builders wouldnt use them. Ask the guys who wrote the book on drag racing( Rudy,Bruce, Kim Muchmore) and see what they tell you. You run a chance of leaning out on top when your power jets arent jeted properly, so you know they are doing something.

I run them on my alchy carbs on my 409, although i know quite a few guys who don't run them too. Dan Hull doesn't run them on his carb for sivler lake in michigan, but he said he needs to use them when he goes out to glamis for hill shooting. I also know that he runs quite a bit bigger main jet than what i am since he isn't using the power jets.
