Aftermarket Reeds. Which is best and why?
#11
I tried boysen reeds in my 250R and after going through jetting hell found that low end was slightly better, but top end was not there at all(and i know how to jet a carb)It seemed like the reeds just wouldnt move fast enough in the top rpm,s. I took them out and through them across the yard as far as i could and went back stock. It ran great after that. Ill never put that crap in my motor again. I think all those reeds are mostly hype !!!

I put Boyesen Pro-Series reeds in my '99 Blaster and could feel the difference. It made it climb better and also made it pick up the front wheels in higher gears. The dual stage design works like a four barrel by restricting the flow at low rpm, then opening up all the way at high rpm.

Well, it's interesting. I've played around with a few different reeds, and at least in my set-up it seemed to like the Boyesen's the best.
Reeds won't make power, it can "move" it around a little.
I felt that with the Dual Stage it gave the best response between 3000 and 5500 RPM's. I have tried a stiffer CF reed from TDR and it seemed to provide the best top end power. Seemed to me, due to the stiffer reed, it didn't flutter around as bad at higher RPM's.
Carbon Tech. had a article out a while ago about CF reeds, and they or someone else had done some strobe photos of reeds at different RPM's, and everyone was suprised how misbehaven the reeds were.
You're right, at higher RPM's they don't seal. So reeds actually become an incumberance to the intake pulse. They take up space and get in the way of the intake pulse.
Marketing ploy, perhaps....but isn't that what most of have to do, take in what someone says, analyze what they claim, apply that against what we know and make our decision from there.
-->Veesh<--I would like to pick your brain though on why the Delta's work better in larger displacement engines...Always looking for good conversation...
