You really don't need to do anything...you'll have plenty of power with just a stocker.

Well its alot of work, But its worth it in the end. You might have to do some frame chopping and definatly new motor mounts.

Default Question about streetbike powered quads

I'm in the middle of a similar conversion now. The trickiest thing I've faced so far is getting the drive spocket lined up with the swingarm. Streetbike engines tend to have the output shaft higher. I lost 2" ground clearance and am trying to decide weather to try and change the suspension to compensate. The exhast system will require some creativity or I will lose even more.

I did this a few years back. I used a Kawie Katana motor as it is air cooled and small mounted on a LT250 frame. Air cooled engines are the best to use because they are simple with no hoses and radiators. These bikes are still being built and there are a lot of engines out there. They also make good power because of newer technology but in an old engine design.

does anyone know if anybody can make the 60tooth rear sprockets in STEEL??? Sprocket specialist only will make them in Aluminium. At 80bucks a pop, it could get pretty expensive over time.

Bigger.

Bigger, if you can find a gear maker, you could have one machined. Make to get it hardened. When a sprocket gets this large they get pretty heavy so I've been looking at hardened chainrings riveted to aluminum centers. I can these in 54 tooth, possibly more but they are 520's. Then I'm thinking of going with a 12 or 13 front. This may still be too high for 25" tires so I'm considering 23"s or 24"s. I haven't put a huge amount of thought into as that stage is still aways away. When I get my final gearing I may go with a Titanium rear sprocket. Let us know what you come up with.

What about one of those AMP links? Would that help give you some latitude on your engine height placement by spreading the chain in front of the swingarm?
