banshee jetting for really high altitudes

ok well i am goign to go to colorado and i would love to take my 00 banshee, but i am at a loss as to what i should rejet it at. right now i have a t5 kit on it which i can easily put the stock back on which i am considering since the stock has spark arrestors. but i am running a 280 main and the needle is on the fourth clip. everything is how they told me to do it with the kit. i called toomey and told them that i would peak out around 13000 feet and they told me they didn't know since they have only tested to 5000 feet the only thing they said was that i should try a 250 main or maybe lower but that i shouldn't move the needle down. any help is greatly appreciated.

Joey, It really depends on where at in Colorado you are starting at. You have to jet for the lowest altitude you will be riding at. For example, you wouldn't want to jet for 13000 feet when you will be going down to 6000 feet. You would be extremely lean at the 6000 feet altitude. Also, bnear in mind that you will not likely be spending too much time at 13000 feet. With that being said, at 6000 feet for example, probably a 230 to 240 main would be right, about a 180 to 200 for the stock pipes. By the way, on my Banshee with K&N and stock pipes I use a 200 main for about 5000 to 9000 feet in altitude. Probably a little lean at 5000 and a little rich at 9000.

First off, I ride in the summer months up at the Cinders near Flagstaff AZ on my 99 Banshee. I can tell you from first hand experience that Stuart Toomey is a nice enough guy, but his jetting recommendations nearly fried my motor. I don't use the airbox lid and have the pro-flow foam kit and T-5's with boyesen reeds. I normally run 280 mains for 7000-9000 feet and it doesn't run fat at all. For dune riding at Glamis, I run 320's and again it runs just fine. All the other jets are stock, except the needles are run in the 4th groove and the air screws are run 2.5 turns out for the mountains and 1.75 turns out for the dunes.
I have several other friends with Banshees and the leanest anyone runs for the mountains is 270's. The first time I ran the T-5's, I followed Toomeys suggestions for the dunes and ran 290's. It was lean enough to start dying near the tops of big dunes. 300's ran better, but I settled on 320's after more tweaking.
You'll be much better off running fat than lean. Besides, you can always rejet once you're up there, oh, and get used to the feeling of NO POWER. It's amazing how much power you lose at high elevations...
