What is the advantage of putting a "cool head" on my banshee ??
I guess there is the obvious, keeping the engine cooler etc.. but what persormance gains would I get and is it worth the investment ???
I have been told by one person its not worth it, but would like some other opinions
thanks

As far as cooling, i have heard they don't really make a difference.

And as far as performance gains, you pick the domes you want, pretty sure they start at 18 or 19cc(the smallest) (most compression) and go up to 22cc domes(the least amount of compression domes, but more compression than stock) more compression will give you more low end i am pretty sure and throttle response.

The smaller the dome, the higher the octane rating you will have to run. So get the biggest for pump gas and if you want run race get the smallest.

22cc, 21cc=pump gas...16cc-19cc=racegas/alcohol(dont run these domes unless u have trued/welded the crank) and for 20cc domes, they are kinda for the inbetween, u can run either pump or race fuel and u dont have to true/weld the crank but it would be smart anyway b/c when they come apart, its not fun and it will cost more money in the long run

where do you guys get your info. blue banshee, what you say is for sea level settings. i live at 3300 feet and run 19cc domes on pump gas without any problems. you dont need race fuel for these domes at altitude. i called k&t performance in roy utah for his professional opinion and he said the 18cc would be fine at this altitude , i have 139/137 for compression. he told me thats what you must go by. prodesign says the race fuel to cover there butts for the sea level guys.i trust kim muchmore because he does build some of the fastest banshees around and he knows his stuff.

I agree with peewee. At 7000 ft, 19 cc domes are right on. No race gas needed. As far as cooling, yea they help. Last year mu buddies Banshee would overheat, after the cool head this year, not once, and its been hotter this year than last. Im going to a cool head this winter myself..

in a atv book i have it has a compression chart for pro design heads at different altitudes and different domes. this should help you out with the decision race gas or pump gas, by looking at the compression and not the dome size.

performance may vary depending upon each individuals engine's condition and setup. The following cold cranking compression numbers assume stock exhaust port timing.
sea level 1000ft 2000ft 3000ft
16cc 217psi 176psi 170psi 163psi
17cc 205psi 170 163 157
18cc 193psi 163 157 151 19cc 181psi 157 151 145
20cc 169psi 151 145 139
21cc 157psi 145 139 133
22cc 145psi 139 133 127
stock 130psi 124 118 112

4000ft 5000ft
16cc 157psi 151psi
17cc 151 145
18cc 145 139
19cc 139 133
20cc 133 127
21cc 127 121
22cc 121 115
stock 106 100

You would not happen to have that same info on the cool heads for 250Rs would you. If so could you please post or send it to me. Thanks Dave

Cool heads do provide increased cooling and adjustability for altitude, fuel etc. But one thing everyone else missed is the the shape of the combustion chamber. which by the design should also inrease power through a better squish.
'97 Banshee, FMF pipes, cool head (19cc, trinity porting(stageII), pro design intake, reeds, etc.,etc. and I am running 90 octane pump gas with small amount of Klotz additive at sea-level
