Default Noisy valves

I am having a problem on my 2003 Raptor. I started hearing a pecking sound, I figured it was the valves, so I adjusted them. When I went to adjust the intake, the seemed tight. So I loosened them up. The exhausted seemed fine, so I left it alone. But the pecking was louder. Could I be adjusting them on the exhaust stroke? Would it make that much difference? And do I need to go tighter?

I think it might be a Yamaha thing. I'm not ******* your quad. I have 2 buddies that have yamaha's. One is a 00 warrior and the other one is a 01 raptor. They both have noisy valves. We ajusted the warrior's and they are still loud. My dad had a few yamaha street bikes and he said they had loud valves also.

If your at TDC on the exhaust stroke the valves will be tight, you need to go one more revolution and adjust the valves to spec. You'll know your on the compression stroke because the valves will have some play in them at TDC.
