ATV Tire Pressure
#1
OK I want to know...is it good to have alot of air in the tires when your in mud or is it good to have low pressure because it gives you a bigger foot print??
I need better traction because I drive in mud alot so I keep the tire pressure low...but I've heard it can give you a bit more ground clearance when the tires are pumped up.
So what do you people suggest I do??

I think more hard core mud riders will tell you they run more air for a taller tire and more ground clearance.
I run a little under what the recommended maximum air pressure is for a little better ride. I never "air down" for a bigger foot print as I have seen tires lose their seal with the rim and go flat. It is a mess to try and get the tire re-seated. I have seen folks use a ratchet-type tie down around the tire, or a winch line around the tire to try and hold it down while adding air. It didn't work really well. With a Vampire, it does not matter much if you tear a big hole in it. With its stiff sidewall, it does not go "flat".

If your out mudding more air pressure is better. Thats been my expierence. The last thing you want in mud is floatation.Plus it does add alittle more ground clearence. Thats why tall skinny tires will get you further in the mud, or just about anywhere else. Sand is the exception, then air down for floatation. Plus with more air in your tires, you'll float you rig before you sink it in a deep water crossing.
