Default Fine tuning the Z

Alright, I put a pro circuit T-4 exaust on my Z, with uni filter, high flow lid, and re-jetted. After many different combinations of jetting, I thought I finally had it right. Well here is my problem.....

Plug looks good, runs smooth with no misses, has more torque, outruns my friends stock Z in a 300ft drag, but..... it lost top end. I thought maybe because it is a low-mid range pipe that takes a bit from the top end, but that just doesn't sound right to me do to more air flow I don't see how I could lose anything. Maybe not gain top end, but lose it?

I am hardly never at top end so I wasn't going to even worry about it, but it is bugging the p!ss out of me and I can't take it no more. So could my jetting be off or is it just normal? Any advice will definately be appreciated!

I'm sure its jetting...even though pipes may claim to be directed towards a certain range, like low-mid, they will also benefit the other areas as well. What are the current specs (jetting), and what elevation are you riding?? Consider looking into either an Alba or Dynojet needle, as they are very handy and easy to tune with.

We'll get this figured out...

I already have the dynejet needle installed with dynojets. I forget off hand what clip position I have it set on, I think the 2nd or third. The pilot is stock size, and I believe the main is a 155. What gets me is that there is no dead spots whatsoever, it runs really good all the way thru.

Does it backfire? May be wrong but a 155 seems small to me with the high-flow lid, unless you are really high up. I usually try different sizes and take it for a test ride to see if I can feel a difference. You might check your plug too.

It doesn't back fire at all, runs great. That is why I am so confused, usually if my jetting is off I can usually tell what it needs just by going thru the gears, but Im stumped on this one.

And the plug is nice and tan.

Is the mainjet a Dynojet or Mikuni? There numbers are not the same (dj is smaller than mikuni). I would try a larger mainjet (like a 160 or 165 Mikuni).

I had the same problem with my lid off. I have the dynojet kit with their 165 main, Dj needle on the 3rd groove , K&N, Team Suzuki Yoshimura pipe, and when I took the lid off, I thought it ran like crap. I ended up drilling 9- 1 1/2 holes in the airbox lid and covering all with duct tape but one. I rode it and ended up taking the tape off 3. It ran great in about 40 degree weather. I hear this is a great way to make up for temperature change too.
