Im gettin ready to put a piston in.I know you have to hone the cylinder. How exactly do u do this procedure? And what do you use to remove all the gasket? And also do you use any type of gasket sealant when you put them on or do they just set there?Thanx!

If you are sure you don't need the cylinder bored out for the new piston so that you have the right clearance then all you would need would be to have it honed. Unless you have all the equipment you don't want to do it yourself. Usually a shop can use a ball hone (kind of looks like a christmas tree of a single diameter with small ball hones out at the end) or they use a specific honing machine (Sunnen makes one for about $3k). I'd take it into a shop and spend $20 to have it honed, that way they can make sure you have the correct piston clearance when it's all done. As far as the gasket material, usually a razor blade works well with a little brake cleaner. If you buy new gaskets you shouldn't need a gasket sealer.

I agree with r42176, take to a shop and have them check it for piston clearence. But pickup a service manual for your bike from yamaha, read there procedure for checking tolerances then go to the shop that will perform your work and watch how they do it, then decide if you want to invest in the tools needed to do the work, you would need a inside&outside micrometer and ball hone. It will take alot of hone and bore jobs before they will pay for themselves, but then you would have them for life and if your like me you will find them usefull from time to time. Wiseco does require a little more wall clearence than the stock piston so make sure its not to tight or it will seize before its time.I am not a fan of weisco do to the coldseize problems people have when people don't properly warm them up before running hard.

hey man. The best advice i can give ya on this is, take your quad to your nearest reputable quad shop. Get them to hone the cylinder and put in the piston. It may cost more but youll be glad you did it.
