Default Big Bore Reliability

I'm toying with the thought of getting the Four Stroke Tech 265cc big bore kit for my LT230S Quadsport..... I was wondering how reliable these kits are. I know that FST has an awsmoe rep for building great engines... Oh yeah, I know the kit itself costs $250, but how much would it for to install the big bore kit?

ive got a mojave 93 model 250 and ive checked on big bore kits for it and the cheapest that ive found with all hardware including the head or jug which ever you want to call it but for no less then 600 bucks and well the thing im worried about is this.... on your stock jug if the side walls get ridges or scaring by chance from the rings then you can get it bored and honed but the big bore kits well can you hone and bore them or if somthing happens do you have to buy another kit and so on to fix the problem ?

No. Just like a factory cylinder, you can bore them if somthing goes wrong. For example my 240 big bore kit can be bored 3 times before I would need to replace the sleeve. Odd's are you will never need to use the extra bores unless you didn't take care of it the way you should.

A Big bore, if done right can be just as reliable as the stock form. Really all it is, is a larger piston in a bigger sleeve. If you take care of it just as you would with the stock one then it will last just as long.

I don't think you can bore out a 440 sleeve for a 400ex. Does anyone no for sure?

I know a machine shop that has a top level pro out west riding an LT. He raced one for at least five yrs.. He is now on a YFZ. His shop has been boring and porting for 30+ yrs.. Can't beat the advise of a shop that lived and died on an LT every week at the races. He won many many races against the sea of red..

Usually with bigger bores like that you need to remove the sleeve, bore the casting and then install a new larger sleeve.

Would an oil cooler improve the reliability of the big bore engine?
