Do the outerwears for 250R airbox's help?
#1
i was just riding at a local sand pit and it was pretty dusty. I have a Uni air filter w/ outerwear on my R and no airbox lid. The snorkel is also taken off and is plugged. I washed my quad off and the outerwear on the filter was reeaaallly dirty. I dont know what the filter looks like yet. Im just scared that sand might get in still. I was just wondering if the outerwears for the airbox help much?

Any over wrap type of filter helps. You might remove the filter itself and see if you can see any sign of grit or sand on the intake. Do you oil your filter after cleaning? Agood filter oil combined with the Outerwear ought to trap everything until it gets loaded up.

yea, i oil my filter w/ good filter oil. I just took my filter/prefilter off. The prefilter was really dirty; i oiled it too last time i cleaned my filter so thats probably why lots of the dirt/dust stuck to it. The air filter was a little dirty but wasnt too bad. I checked the intake boot and couldnt see any grit in it. I took kerosene and soaked/washed the prefilter+filter then washed both in hot soapy water, then rinsed. I think i may get the airbox outerwear just for added protection. Lots of dirt stuck to the inside of the air filter box too. Does anyone use the airbox outerwear?

I have an aluminum box with no lid on my 250r.I use uni foam filters.I bought the outerwear for the box,not the one that goes over the filter. It isnt big enough to cover the entire opening so I leave about an inch space at the front of box.It works great!I used to go no more than 1 ride day on a clean filter, now I can ride two days and its not too dirty. It repels some water too that helps crossing puddles and streams.Leave the outerwear dry/not oiled.

I use one on my R. It really helps. Spent 2 days riding in Silver Lake Dunes with it on with minimum sand in the airbox. Highly recommend one if you run without a lid. I also use a UNI foam filter on all my bikes. Wouldn't use anything else.
