connecting rod length

Default connecting rod length

basically what does just lengthing the con rod length do for the motor. why do they say you should just move the crank pin instead of getting a longer rod.

Wrong. Your refering to two different terms, one is a stroker and the other is a longrod.
A stroker requires you to move the crank pin which gives you added CC's. There are all kinds of bennifits from this mod, but its also alot of work. A longrod crank is just a longer rod. You arn't increasing the CC's but your gaining added intake volume and decreasing wear on the cylinder and piston, resulting in longer life. Plus it gives you added torque, it's like using a longer wrench to remove a bolt. A stroker crank will give you much of the same results but requires more work, as I mentioned above.

Neither of these two will increase compression, unless you want them to. If you stroked the crank or added a longer rod the piston would hit the head so what most people do is add a spacer plate to take up the difference. By raising the cylinder you can adjust what your compression levels will be, depending on it's application or the octane fuel it will be burning.
