Advancing Timing w/ aftermarket plate.
#2
Advancing the timing will help with low to mid range power. More than about 6 degrees BTDC will begin to hurt your top-end performance, as the spark is firing as the piston is coming up and it will work against itself. Most people, properly jetted, can safely run 4 degrees advance on pump gas. You can also slot the holes of your stator mounting plate to gain the 4 degrees without having to spend the money on the nice PD one.

There are three holes that the mounting bolts go thru. Take a dremel and elongate the holes so that the mounting plate can be rotated clockwise. It will only be about .250" of an inch. Leave plently of material at the ends of each hole, min. .125" Don't make the holes any larger in diameter, just slot the holes.
