Idle (Pilot) Jetting Question
#21
Backcountry and Free1steven:
OK, I went down to Mexico this weekend and finally tried out my new Drag Pipes. The results are:
I put the 45 Pilot Jets in....Worked Great!
I put the 178 Mains in....Great plug color!
When I hit the throttle hard from about 1/8 to wide-open, it hesitated and then took off. I put the Choke on both carbs and this problem went away. For this reason, I assume I was running too lean on the Needle Clip placement.
When I got back to Phoenix today, I moved the Needle Clip down (down towards the pointed end of the Needle) in an attempt to Richen the mid-range. I will not get to try this out for about a month until I go back to Mexico.
Does it sound like I did the right thing with the Needle to lose that hesitation? In other words, I think I richened the Needle Clip placement, thereby, I hope to lose the hesitation.
Thanks!

Right on crouton....If it balked momentarily and then ripped, it's lean, if it bogged down and blubbered a tad and then started to build RPM's your rich. Most likely you're lean. You headed the right direction.
So.....those 175 mains weren't too far off afterall huh??? Just gotta get a cheap shot in ;-)

Backcountry:
Well, to be honest, I put the 175's in and the plug color was perfect. I put the 178's in when I got home only because there was a huge storm going through the area I was riding in and it was much cooler outside than normal. I went up a size since I will normally be riding in warmer weather.
Thanks again for the advice...it was "rite-on."
