Default Can a counterbalancer betaken out of an engine???

Just wondering if anyone has any experience with taking the counterbalancers

out of atv engines. I have a 450 Foreman with a 2mm larger piston, high compresion wiseco,

and my counterbalancer gears are making noise (i think) Was considering removing

the balancer and gear off the crank. Wonder how much it would vibrate????

It seems to me that mac dizzy did this on honda 250r's. Any info would be appreciated!

You would problly need to have the crank balanced. I would think that it would vibrate bad and start to crack motor mounts and such.

The rod has been replaced and is all trued and ready to go.

I'm still debating weather or not to try this, since it's a major job if i

have to strip it all down again. I doubt there are many people that

have tried this in this engine but i know others have tried it

on other engines.

Cant hurt to try I guess. I thought about taking mine out, just to get some quicker revs, but it runs my water pump.

On this 450 Foreman, I'm pretty sure nothing runs

off the end of the shaft but there might be an oil gallery

there. I guess a guy could just put a frost plug in there though.

i JUST REALIZED THAT THE OIL PUMP IS DRIVEN OFF THE END OF THE COUNTERBALANCER

SO I GUESS THAT ELIMINATES TAKING THE BALANCER OUT!

The counter balancer is there so that the engine will not vibrate the hell out of you. It sounds like you have a bearing that is bad someplace.
