You'll get a million different opinions on this one and for the Z there are heaps of good pipes out there.
It will depend on your budget really but HMF dont cost too much and PulseCharger do !
Just make sure you rejet to suit and do your intake at the same time to maximize the new power from the pipe !
Hope this helps

I'll second the HMF pipe. If you plan on more mods down the road (Cam, Piston, Carb) you might as well get the full system (about $430) or you can just do the slip-on (about $220). Either way, with the proper jetting you will notice better throttle response, increased mid-range power, and of course more sound. Just don't make it too loud Hope this helps!

We just bought our HMF from sweetquads.com for $360!!! Thats probably the cheapest F/S you can get!! And it isn't a bad all around system. If you were racing I would recommend CT or Curtis Sparks. Do you happen to ride just dunes or in dryier non desert area?

Thanks everybody I think I probably will go with HMF full system. I mostly ride the Saint Anthony Sand Dunes and open desert. I think the other mod I want to do is a K&N air filter Kit

HMF is decent although Ive never seen a z400 irl with that pipe. Ive seen whitebros, yoshi, sparks, procircuit etc. I like yoshi, sparks, drd, and ct racing.

Yoshimura is over-rated...go with a CT full system.
