I have started having a problem with my Raptor backfiring and blowing the carbs loose from the rubber boots. My dealer called Yamaha and they said the solution was to raise the needle one position and richen the mixture. Because this problem is manifest with everything stock (snorkel on, baffle in), I'm guessing that the advice on installing one size richer pilot jet is probably
right on when I remove the baffle and snorkel position.

The guys at my dealership know nothing about the carburetors on the Raptor and I'm hesitant about taking it in to them until they get a manual. I was hoping that someone could clarify a few things before I dive into it.

I'm familiar with Mikuni carbs as found on the Yamaha Banshee and was able to jet them very easily, but from what I gather, the Constant Velocity carbs are quite different. Is the needle attached directly to the slide just like on the Banshee and if so, is it still
required that the throttle cable be removed from both or either carb? It looks like there is only one throttle cable and that they are connected by a linkage or shaft.

Also, do I understand correctly that the needle is accessible from the top of the carburetor like most others?

Lastly, do the pilot jets look to be the same as
found on the Banshee Mikuni carbs?

Sorry for such ignorant questions, I'm just not experienced with this type of carburetor.

Thanks for any help that you can provide.

Bash...when you get inside the carbs, make sure the top spring is correct when buttonning it back up and be careful with the washers that are assosiated with the needle adjustment (one is thicker than the other).
