Default I would like to build an ATV

hi... im new here... just joined...
im thinking about building my own ATV over the spring/summer. can anyone tell me what i need, etc. i have a motor, and i might go to a junkyard or somethin to find some wheels and other things. theres an automotive store down the street a few blocks from me... would i be able to get parts there?

Welcome, your gonna need a lot of time, I don't know anyone personally who has done this but I'm sure there's a few, also keep everyone updated on here if you do go for it, take a lot of pictures, it would be really cool to see it if you do succeed!

its most likely that im going to go to a junkyard and find an old one and fix it up alot to my liking... but ill still take pics of the progress if i do it.

You would need some amazing fabricating skills to build a frame and suspension components from scratch, just start out with a frame from a junkyard or something.

im prolly changing my mind back to building a gocart... it seems to be much easier than a atv...

Just look at the gocart as a stretched and lowered atv!

It'll be a good learning project for you. Good Luck!

i joined another atv forum the same day as i joined this and posted the same exact thing... but the other one got more replys... except all the guys on there were just putting me down for suggesting it... they still say that building the gocart will need major engineering skills or w/e... i dont care what they say... im a mechanical type of guy... I think you should be able to build a cart as long as you have some basic metal-working skills like welding. A couple of my friends tried making one but gave up, they aren't they brightest though and they were only 15 and 16 at the time. Just plan everything out first it'll help a lot.
