Does anybody know of a website where I can order a vented airbox for a Yamaha Warrior?

Also, does K&N make a clamp-on style filter for the Warrior? I have a K&N drop-in filter now, but if you're familiar with Yamaha's infamous airbox design, it's terrible, and whenever I try and reinstall the filter properly, the sealing gasket gets chewed up.

In Dirtwheels, I saw an aluminum air box made by Alba with their special vented lid, it uses personal watercraft design to keep dirt and water off the filter, and is said to flow as good as an unlidded box.It is set up for a clamp on filter, and runs 190 bucks,I think it comes with a K&N filter in it, I may be wrong. If that is too spendy, James Lucky (also in D.W.)sells the pro flow filter kit for 98 bucks, and a moto force vented lid for about 35. But if you add it up, for just about 50 bucks more, the Alba system seems a lot better.

You got a K&N and followed the instructions on how to change the air filter?? You're crazy!!
I got a K&N and hoped it would be proflow like (slip on, tighten the collar and GO). Instead the gave a ridiculous description on how to put the K&N keeping the crappy stock system. I half followed these instructions.
Here's what I did.
Like said in the K&N manual, cut the plastic stuff of the stock filter.
Took the foam sealing round off (it was completely dead).
Installed the plastic round where it usually goes (it will go a bit further down, since there's not the foam layer anymore), drilled 3 (2 is the minimum) holes on the upper part of the plastic (where it's flat) and through the airbox (be sure to drill where it's nice straight and vertical).
took the plastic round off.
Cleaned the airbox from the little plastic parts (from drilling)
Put some silicone where the crappy foam was (I didn't do it, but I would recomend it).
Put it into place (being sure that the holes in the plastic and the airbox face each other).
Put "rivets" through the holes, making sure it's as tght as possible between the airbox and the plastic round.
Cut the two little things on the lid that usually hold the back of the filter. The one in front didn't bother me.
There it is. It holds on, just need to slip the air filter on and tighten the collar.

I recently changed the filter system on my 2000 warrior.I made an aluminum flange(I'm a machinist) and bolted it into my air box, then a clamp on style filter slips on.This is how the Pro Design works and you can order it with a K&N or a foam filter. One thing I noticed with the air box out of the machine was , with the stock filter and lid installed, looking into the carb boot hole the filter was missaligned by 1/4 inch. Thats a big disruption in airflow. When I put my flange on I made sure it was lined up good before drilling and bolting it on.If you install the Pro design flange make sure it lines up good.But if you got the coin get that trick Alba airbox that 95wolv mentioned.Also , with a clamp on filter you can run your machine with the airbox lid off if you want.

It works great. Now I can see my filter is installed properly,with the stock system you never knew if the lid was hooked on to the filter or not, or if that cheesy foam ring was sealing or letting dirt in.No airbox lid,a Unifilter, & a K&N jet fit and it's starting to rip ! I can't wait to pipe it!

Fourplay, since there is not a clamp-on K&N for the Warrior, what specific model did you buy to install in your modified airbox?

 

The flange that I made is 2.5 inches dia. where the filter clamps on.I checked around with diferent filter companys and finally came up with either a K&N RD-0720 or Uni Filter UP6245ST . These are both 2.5 I.D. X 3.5 O.D. X 6 inches long. I ended up going with the Uni Filter. But that was for my flange , I do not Know what dia. the Pro Design is but it must be close and you can order different filters (2.25 ,2.5, 2.75,...) In any case, I've seen the Pro Design system advertized with K&N or foam filters and you can always get more/spare filters from K&N or UNI (Uni's web site lists all the sizes of it's clamp on filters. Note:In the "uni pod filter" column add ST to the part # for a two stage foam). The one I got was pretty cheap around $25 Canadian so it's probably under $20 US. I'm ordering another so I always got a clean filter ready to go.

 

zorro have just got my 99 warrior about a month ago and it already had a k&n air filter. i dont really onder stand what plastic u r talking about to cut of because i would like to do that to. if u had a picture or some thing u could send me i would really like it. thanks
