Mikuni VM20SS carb. woes
#1
Last night I tried to start my daughters Suzuki LT160. It would only sputter then die. Changed the plug, it was black indicating rich condition. Must be flooded, pulled airbox lid and filter off for more air. Same deal, would only sputter then die. Gave it a shot of starting fluid, it would then run if you kept gving it shots of fluid. O.K. that means no fuel. Pulled gas line, plenty of fuel there. Drained carb. bowl and refilled, same result. Pulled carb and removed all ports/jets/seats and cleaned with spray carb also checking all passages. Put it back together, same results, but I found out that if I rock the quad from side to side it will run fine. Let the quad sit still for 10 seconde, it will die again. Sound like the float is fubar, but it was now 10pm and I'd had enough. Any suggestions?

Did you try opening the drain plug to see if fuel is actually in the bowl? If so it would eliminate a stuck float valve. I would also try removing the fuel line at the tank petcock & opening the petcock to check for an obstruction there or in the tank itself.
