you should be able to run pump gas, unless you raise the compression a lot, although premium pump gas, is probably a good idea. About it being reliable, it really depends on what else you do to it. But it should be fairly reliable still. Tell me how it turns out, i might try one for my pred.

11.5:1 is generally considered to be the highest that you can go and still use 93 (pump premium) but there are other factors to consider such as porting and its effects on compression.There are quite a few old posts you could search and get much more information on this subject.

doing almost any type of engine mod will bring the reliability down. something like boring causes the engine to not handle heat as well because of the thinner cylinder wall.
if you go big bore, you will need to do some other mods to get it to run right. pipe, air filter, re-jet are must haves. to get even more out of it change cams, port and polish, and replace your valves and get stiffer valve springs.
