Default 450r help

My brother just bought a new 2006 honda 450r and in first gear it just isn't peppy, while you are going slow the throttle responce isn't working properly. We thought it just needed to be broken in, but we finally took it in and they said that to solve it he needs a jet kit. First of all is his quad opperating right and should we install the jet kit?

Might as well just do the HRC kit, uncork the muffler (or better yet get an aftermarket), and an EHS Racing airbox lid. Go down one tooth on the front sprocket.

WTH?? NO its not operating correctly. this is a high performance, quick revving machine by design; 'peppy' is one way to describe it, so it should be as such and running correctly when you bring it home from the dealer. they are to ensure this when they first service/test it. possible defect and/or imcompetent dealer, imo. they are trying to sell you a jet kit and nab you for labor costs. insist they do it right, or go to another dealer and get ready to call honda if they will not cover it under warranty. you all didnt jack around with carb settings or anything, did you?

At the factory, machines are jetted for average conditions at sea level. They usually will need some fine tuning for your local conditions, like altitude, humidity, season, etc., so that may be what the dealer means..........

My point was that he is going to want to do the HRC kit eventually anyway. If there is a carb problem that has to do with "jetting", the HRC requires a rejet anyway, so just solve that at the same time.

On the other hand, it may not actually be a "jetting" problem???

i know they do this but my point as that being a local dealer, they should be keen on the local conditions when they prep the bike for delivery and make the necessary adjustments to have it run right. i have never had to take a new bike home and rejet it so it would run right. i even bought out of state before and when it got to me it was fine and didnt require me to rejet.

i do see your point on the HRC though, if he is willing to spend the money on it and it doesnt run right now just go for it! there is no more cost effective $199 (and warranty covered mod if done by the dealer) to get a 30% increase in power fom this bike (the 06 model, the 04/05 wont see this much of a gain but is improved over stock). Mine doesnt have the HRC b/c i heard from several others that it takes away some on the bottom end; the cam grind on the HRC is more for mid range???

yea it proably does in the 04 450r but the 06's are way diff, just buy the hrc kit and look at the dyno run they did with it, it adds nothing but power from low end to top end you wont be disapointed
