Default Dual-row bearing carrier?

hey, my 400ex needs a new bearing carrier, i just had a few questions on the dual row ones. first..do they just have twice the amount of bearings?..or what makes them better than a stock one. and second would it be worth spending the extra money to buy one?..and what brand do you guys reccomend? there was a deal on lonestar's awhile ago on ebay..im not sure if they're still up there.
