Need Mechanical (carb) Help Please
#1
Here is the problem and I'll be as detailed as possible. I have a 99 Wolverine that is stock. I bought it new and haven't had any major problems. I few weeks ago, it started to die if I let it idle for more than a minute or two. Then if I would stab the throttle, it would almost cut out and about die. If I would hit the choke, it would run about normal. I took the carb off and removed the bottom section and checked the float and everything looked ok. I put it all back together and it ran the same even with the air box off. I then tried to take the carb apart again and used compressed air to blow it out. I put it all back together (very carefully) and now it won't start. I went ahead and ordered a new carb but I was wondering if there could be anything else that could be causing my problem? I'll be happy to answer any questions if you need further info. I'd love to get my problem fixed without using the new carb. (but I figure I'll at least have a shop fix my old carb.) Thanks for any help!

Did you actually remove the jets, and look thru them, like looking down a straw, to see if they are blocked? You should see light come thru the center of the jet..and the idle jet is most likely the problem. If the idle jet is plugged, just buy a new one, they are like 5 bucks.

I didn't remove any jets, only tried to blow them out with compressed air. Really the only things that I actually removed were the diaphrams to see if there were any tears. I didn't find any. I know there's not much to these carbs, any idea what I may have screwed up to make it not start now? (I realize that's about like asking how many drops of mud are in the mud hole, but I had to ask) I've got a CD manual for it, and there is not "idle jet" listed in the parts diagram. Could this be called a different name?

Idle jet is also called the pilot jet, and sometimes referred to as the slow jet...all the same thing. Idle screw has nothing to do with it, but the mixture screw does fine tune the pilot(idle) jet.
If you dont unscrew the jets, and soak them you wont be able to clear them. Sometimes the deposits are so hard, even soaking them in carb cleaner wont work, in which case go get a new one. Its also posible the diapham is pinched or not assembled properly..recheck that.
