250R engined EX
#1
I was wondering if any out there has put a 250R engine in a 400EX chasis because I am interested in doing this within the next couple of years.
If so please reply and tell me how much work was involved in the project
Thanks

No I have not seen this, but I thought the same thing kinda. When the magazines were saying the 400EX is even maybe better than the R (Through whoops that is), then drop a R motor in the EX frame, then see what happens!!!
Along with what you were wanting to do, unless you can come accross an entire 400EX rolling chassis for cheap, you'd be better off going with a Leagers chassis or maybe even something like an Aarens Chassis for that 250R, a 400EX chassis is still stock. If I raced or just rode a 400EX, I'd have to gusset the frame just as I did my R, because it's still mild steel just like the stock R. Any aftermarket frame is chromoly which is much better than mild steel. I am actually thinking of building my own frame out of chromoly for my Senior design project. But the school wants me on the SAE Senior Design Mini-baja team, so time will tell, thats a few years away anyway.
Whatever you do hope it turns out well, keeps us posted.

Mu opionion is:
The stock ex frame would be a good choice. You can buy the stock frame from a dealer for about 600 bucks. The frame is much stronger then the R becuase it is round tubing and not square like the r which can and will buckle.
this will proably only be good u are raceing or if you can buy a complete rolling chais. If you are racing because then you will proably go with all aftermarket stuff like aarms, grab bars and what not.

the 400ex and the trx250r frame are almost identical, the only real difference is the increase in travel in the shocks. if you want the same travel in your R just get some works shocks and +2 aarms

Actually, Aftermarket frames like the leager have a little different front end geometry than stock (Frame rails are closer, etc) that run +3 a-arms to get the same width as +2 arms on a stock chassis. Thus even more suspension travel. Also a Leagers is made of double walled chromoly, which is way stronger than the stock mild steel frame. If I was going to spend the time and money building a quad, I think spending an extra $1000 is really not that bad considering the advantages gained from it over a stock mild steel frame.
