Is there any performance difference in the Megamax II or the new PowerCore V (?, not sure of the number) I have a 95 300ex. I saw the PowerCore advertised for the four-stroke. Was wondering if one is better then the other. I mostly do trail riding, some track. I like the low to mid range power. But wouldn't mind some more top-end. What to you guys think. This is going to be my christmas gift, so i want to make sure which one to get !! Thanks

The Megamax II is much better suited for trail riding and a basically stock engine. The Powercore IV is much louder and is better suited for higher compression/ performance cam motors.

Jason,
Indeed, you want the megamax for the woods or the lV for the track. FMF tech support suggests that you run all discs and no quiet core insert for the most power increase.

Steve... If i run the MegaMax how you suggested, will I have any problems with the noise level. I personal don't care about how loud it may be, but will authorities?? Don't want to cause any trouble ! A friend rides a 300ex with a SuperTrapp. Its a little loud, but not un bearing. Will it pass the decibal test, or however they test the noise level !! I will be riding some public areas in the up coming years..
Thanks

I got the MegaMax II on my Scrambler 500 and it makes a big difference when you mess with the discs. It comes with I think 10 discs, I took the quiet core out and it THUMPS harder and lower (not quiter but lower like low bass). With the core in it as a tin, tin, tin sound to it. I ordered the 12 extra discs and the longer bolts to add more of the discs. Since 1 of my discs got bent I have 21 in it now with the quietcore and it is as loud now as it was with 10 discs no core. I am taking the core out tonight and running it with 21 discs no core, I don't like the tin, tin, tin sound, I love the THUMP,THUMP, THUMP sound. One of my friends has the supertrapp on his 500 scrambler and it is unbearably loud, I don't know how many discs are in it but man is it loud . You will like the sound of the pipe, and if you get a chance when nobody is around take all of the discs out and leave it open, you can feel it thumping in your chest but it is not that loud.
